HELPFUL HINTS OF THE WEEK:

One of the biggest headaches of internet auctioning is the "shipping phase".
The wrapping, boxing, standing in line at the Post Office to find out how
much it will cost to send. Now check out the U.S. Post Office webpage:
Domestic & International Rate Calculator. All you need to do is add in the
zipcodes of the seller and buyer along with the package weight (pays to
buy a good postal scale), and presto you know how much it will cost.
Anyway, hope this helps.

OPINIONS: WE ALL HAVE THEM AND WELCOME THEM:

Last week I wrote a short analysis of what we liked and did not like about
the new AMAZON.COM auction. We were a bit startled by a few
subscribers who accused us of "working for eBay" and that we are biased
in favor of eBay. FOR THE RECORD: We LOVE Amazon's new auction,
but nothing is perfect. If any of us (you included) see something that needs
to changed or added about any auction, I believe that they (auction
operators) would welcome the suggestions. We also love eBay, because
they were the pioneers, the first one out of the chute in internet auctioning.
There are also a lot of new auctions (mostly retail to person) that we also
like but we can't get to them all.

- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HACKER INFESTING EBAY?

We have heard from several sources about an alleged mysterious hacker
who is having his way with eBay. Messing with auctions, changing prices,
early closings and many other mischievous things, sort of the "Gopher in
Caddyshack" type of hacker. If you go to the ebay "Announcements" you
will notice a couple of very strange messages from ebay to its members:
This one warns eBay members to report any of the events as listed below
(verbatim) if they:

1. Experience a pop-up window at eBay, or
2. Receive a Bid Conformation Notice for an item which you did not bid on,
or
3. Receive a Listing Confirmation Notice for an item which did not list for sale
on eBay, PLEASE remember to change your password regularly!

This is not your normal nearly everyday "server outage" announcement that
ebay is famous for. Sounds like all is not going well in the land of OZ.
Margaret & Pierre --- go get some mouse traps.

IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS, INFORMATION OR ANYTHING
NEW TO ADD ABOUT INTERNET AUCTIONS, PLEASE EMAIL US
AND LET US KNOW. We do read all email but since we get thousands of
letters per week, we find it difficult to answer all of them. So be patient with
us, we're peddling as fast as we can.

!! NEW AUCTION REVIEW !!!

ECOMECOM (OTC BB:ECEC) - http://www.ecomecom.com

David Panaia, CEO of eCom eCom.com, Inc. (OTC BB:ECEC), announced
the launch of a media-wide advertising campaign focused on consumer
choice. ``It's important for eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY - news) and Amazon.com
(Nasdaq:AMZN - news) customers to know that we offer a better way to
buy or sell merchandise over the Internet,'' said Panaia. ``We aim to reduce
charges and increase security.''

In regard to customer cost, Panaia cited the experience of America Online
(NYSE:AOL - news) and other Internet service providers as evidence that
per-use charges are not consumer-friendly. eBay and Amazon both assess
listing and value-based transaction charges on a sliding scale based on
the value of the item auctioned. For example, sale of one item valued at
$1,000 through either eBay's or Amazon's auction site costs the seller a
minimum of $25.63 for the final value fee plus $2.00 for the listing fee.
Other fees may apply for additional services such as bold listing or category
feature fees or use of escrow services. Customers who use these auction
services regularly find that their patronage can be very expensive.

eCom eCom's ECEC Trading Club takes a different approach. Offering a
broad range of trading options, including swapping and classified ad listings
in addition to the auction format, Trading Club membership is free. An
annual fee of $36 allows sellers to list an unlimited number of items for sale
through ECEC's auction. In addition to being more economical, the
membership club concept is more secure because the Trading Club
reserves the right to revoke the membership of anyone who engages in
unethical trading activity.

The ECEC Trading Club will celebrate its grand opening on April 29, 1999
by waiving the $36 seller fee and giving away prizes in a drawing on that date.
Anyone who signs up for free membership in the Club prior to the grand
opening is eligible to win a prize. The winner of the grand prize will receive
$10,000 in cash. Details of the drawing for $10,000 cash and other prizes can
be found on ECEC's web site at:
